Our Work
The Endangered Species Coalition is the only organization that is dedicated one hundred percent to protecting our nation’s endangered species. As a guardian of the Endangered Species Act, the safety net for our nation’s wildlife, fish and plants on the brink of extinction, the coalition represents the millions of Americans dedicated to strong endangered species protections.

The Endangered Species Act (ESA)

The Endangered Species Act is a safety net for our nation’s wildlife, fish and plants on the brink of extinction. The Act protects thousands of endangered species and millions of acres of habitat. In today’s era of global warming, it is needed more than ever. Because of the success of its programs, we can still see bald eagles, peregrine falcons, wolves, grizzly bears and wild salmon. The Endangered Species Coalition works to ensure that our nation’s laws and programs protecting endangered species and habitat are fully funded and enforced.

For an overview of the Act, related resources and additional information, please see our Toolbox.

Endangered Species Coalition campaigns to defend the Endangered Species Act are made possible in part by support from Defenders of Wildlife

Endangered Species Day

Endangered Species Day, the third Friday in May, is a national celebration of America’s commitment to protecting and recovering our nation’s endangered species. Parks, wildlife refuges, zoos, aquariums, botanical gardens, schools, museums, libraries, agencies, businesses, community groups and conservation organizations across the country will hold events to educate the public about the importance of protecting endangered species and highlight the everyday actions that individuals and groups can take to help protect our nation’s wildlife, fish and plants.

Mending the Net

The Endangered Species Act is a safety net for our wildlife, fish and plants on the brink of extinction.  Tragically, the Bush Administration undermined the law's protections.  Now, it is time to restore our nation's commitment to protecting imperiled species.

Global Warming

Global warming is threatening wildlife, fish and plants who are already on the brink of extinction. Melting sea ice, warming ocean and river waters, shifting life cycles and migration are impacting endangered species, including polar bears, penguins, coral, salmon and migratory birds. A recently released report from the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) states that 20-30 percent of animal and plant species could be at an increased risk of extinction. The Endangered Species Coalition is working to protect endangered species from the impacts of global warming.

10 Most Endangered Species

The Endangered Species Coalition is focusing attention on the nation’s top 10 endangered species. We will educate people about the plight of endangered species, the biggest threats, and what people can do to help protect our nation’s wildlife.

For All Things Wild

Endangered Species Coalition staff works on local, state and regional campaigns to protect endangered species habitat near key communities in their states. Our grassroots organizers work with our member organizations and activists in California, the Northwest, the Northern Rockies and the Northeast mobilizing grassroots support for endangered species protections. As experts in wildlife and habitat in their own states, our staff is working to protect Canadian lynx, gray wolves, spotted owl, Pacific salmon and many more endangered species.
